A Philosophy Sluts Convo

A (5:56:10 PM): im loaning my "thusspoke zarathustra" to rob

A (5:56:16 PM): im really hoping he likes it

E (5:56:27 PM): hah, wow. i would never loan that

A (5:56:30 PM): but also that he doesnt like it too much

E (5:56:51 PM): lol

E (5:56:57 PM): expecially the woman parts?

A (5:57:22 PM): haha

A (5:57:24 PM): yeah

A (5:57:26 PM): well

A (5:57:51 PM): nietzsche himself said he wanted everyone to be "wounded and uplifted" by every word....

E (5:57:58 PM): awww

E (5:58:00 PM): really?

A (5:58:01 PM): so if hes only uplifted somethings went very wrong

E (5:58:03 PM): i dont' knwo that

E (5:58:06 PM): that's adorable

E (5:59:05 PM): you know that very thing actually happened. two very academically brilliant guys convinced themselves that they were the supermen nietzsche had written about

E (5:59:20 PM): they were so convinced of it that they attempted to plan the perfect murder

E (5:59:24 PM): ...and failed

A (5:59:29 PM): oh yeah

E (5:59:31 PM): lol

A (5:59:36 PM): damn...leopold and loeb

E (5:59:40 PM): :-D

E (5:59:55 PM): dun dun dun, when nietzsche reading goes wrong

A (6:00:11 PM): exactly

A (6:00:30 PM): besides, nietzsche's sister made the nazis fall in love with his shit

E (6:01:21 PM): a clear example of why women need to be kept in their place

E (6:01:22 PM): lol

A (6:01:33 PM): exACTly

A (6:02:56 PM): i was thinking about nietzsche's feelings about buddha at 3 am last night

A (6:03:00 PM): and i realized some shit

A (6:03:25 PM): that nietzsche was disappointed in buddhism, because they were onto the truth, and then took it in the wrong direction

A (6:03:44 PM): they realized life is will to power, only they call it desire and attachment

A (6:04:02 PM): so, in order to free oneself of life, one has to free oneself from the will to power

A (6:04:10 PM): BUT that is an expression of a desire

A (6:05:01 PM): so theyre being inauthentic.  they say they try to eliminate desire, but if this is true then the cycle cannot be escaped, because your final desire is to rid yourself of desire.

A (6:05:31 PM): and theyre expressing, in the will to denial of life, a high form of will to power, in their control over themselves

A (6:05:50 PM): because control over others is a meaningless, corrupted form of the will to power

A (6:06:00 PM): its messy, unpredictable, and unsatisfying

A (6:06:49 PM): thats why a nazi expresses not even one millionth of the true will to power...all he can think about is control of others, and meanwhile his own spirit is a limp noodle

A (6:08:14 PM): the will to unattachment to things, i think, is a good and authentic expression of the will to power....but when you start talking about detachment from life, thats when nietzsche gets off the buddhism train.

A (6:08:17 PM): phew

A (6:08:20 PM): done!

E (6:08:40 PM): :-D

E (6:09:17 PM): you're amazing, kid

E (6:09:42 PM): it's almost like my own issue with buddhism

A (6:09:48 PM): i was thinking about all this because i was trying to detach zen-style, and then remembered what nietzsche thought of buddhism.  my brain was caught and i started to cry....

E (6:09:50 PM): which is one of the things that first attracted my to him

A (6:09:56 PM): whats your issue with buddhism?

E (6:14:27 PM):  i normally hate when it rains. my hair gets all frizzy, i can't stand the heat and humity that comes with rain in florida, and it ruins shoes. however, every now and then on heavy rains i can't resist the intense desire to get in a bathing suite and run around in it. feel the wet grass, and eveb better, if it's concrete it get cold rain warm on the floor right away

E (6:11:25 PM): it's wonderful

E (6:11:35 PM): one of the few things a buddhist monk can have is an umbrella

E (6:14:42 PM):  to represent the sheltering fromt the chaos on the world that the religion essentially means to give

E (6:15:22 PM):  and i understand the need for that. but to erase an entire half of yourself because it's too hard is bullshit

E (6:15:25 PM):  we are chaos too

E (6:15:31 PM):  and it's fake to pretend otherwise

please don't judge a couple of silly philosophy majors on holiday too harshly.  there's only love here, and it's for you.
